      General note

The 1899 General Conference journal stated that on the 8th day of October 1899, a conference was organized, consisting of seven ministers. The only journal in our files is from 1929, in which a historical sketch indicates a revival meeting was held in 1909 in Knoxville, TN, from which was organized the First WM church in that city. Over the years, three other churches were started in Knoxville and Rockwood, TN. These were part of the North Carolina Conference until 1929, when East Tennessee was organized as a mission conference. Apparently, this conference later changed its name to the Tennessee Conference, as the 1931 Discipline of the WMC defines the Tennessee Conference as comprising the State of Tennessee.
