General note
The North Michigan conference was first mentioned in the 1887 Discipline, "The North Michigan Conference
shall comprise all that part of the State of Michigan included within the following boundary: Starting from the north-west corner of Ottawa Co.; thence running due east to the west line of Genesee Co.; thence due north to Saginaw City; thence along the Saginaw River to Saginaw Bay." The earliest journal in our files is from 1888, which was apparently the organizing conference, since the 1889 journal specifies it was the second annual session. Thirty-three churches were listed in 1888. The district boundaries included the northern half of lower Michigan and all of the upper peninsula. The North Michigan Conference continued until the 1968 merger.
